Askar and Jaw coast

ساحل عسكر وجو

Askar and Jaw are old coastal villages on Bahrain's south-east shore, passed on the coast road towards Durrat Al Bahrain.

About Askar and Jaw coast

Askar and Jaw sit on the south-east coast of Bahrain in the Southern Governorate, south of Sitra and the industrial belt around Ma'ameer. The road through them continues south towards Durrat Al Bahrain at the bottom of the island. Askar is home to the shrine of Sa'sa'a bin Sohan, a companion of Imam Ali, which is a local landmark. Jaw has traditionally been home to the Al Bu Romaih tribe. Both villages keep a small-scale, residential character.

This is a working shoreline rather than a beach resort. Small boats are moored along the coast, and the shallow eastern waters give wide views out towards Fasht Al Adhm, the large reef bank offshore. The coast here faces east, so early mornings bring the best light for photographs across the water. Low tide exposes wide sand and mud flats where wading birds feed.

It suits drivers taking the scenic route to Durrat Al Bahrain, photographers and anyone curious about village life away from the city. There are few visitor facilities, so bring water. Swimming spots are not lifeguarded, and much of the shore is not set up for beach use. Treat the drive as a scenic route to Durrat and Hawar rather than a beach day.
