Learn · Riffa · South Bahrain

An American-model university in Riffa, launched in 2019 and accredited in the US by WSCUC, on a purpose-built 75,000 square metre campus.

The American University of Bahrain was launched in 2019 by Elm Education, a Bahraini education investment platform set up by Mumtalakat. It was presented as the kingdom's first comprehensive, purpose-built, co-educational university based on the American model. It is aimed at students from Bahrain and across the Gulf.

In 2023 AUBH announced US accreditation from the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC), a first for a university in Bahrain. It is also licensed by Bahrain's Higher Education Council. The accreditation means its degrees are reviewed to the same standards as universities in the western United States.

Teaching is organised in a College of Arts and Sciences, a College of Business and Management, a College of Engineering and Computing and a College of Media and Design, with a Pathway Academy for foundation study. Programmes include business, computer science, engineering, data science and AI, at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

The campus covers about 75,000 square metres and was designed by the US firm Ayers Saint Gross. It has labs, a library, a sports centre with indoor and outdoor courts, an auditorium and innovation spaces such as the Investcorp Innovation Lab. There are no on-campus dormitories.
