About Bilaj Al Jazayer
Bilaj Al Jazayer is a mixed-use beachfront masterplan on the south-west coast of Bahrain, developed by Edamah, the real estate arm of the sovereign wealth fund Mumtalakat. It covers around 1.3 million square metres with roughly three kilometres of beachfront around the popular public beach.
The beach masterplan was designed by Foster + Partners. It sets out a Beach Drive with shops and cafés at street level, a main boulevard set back from the shore, a large green park between coast and road, and piers that form sheltered coves. The architecture draws on Bahrain's traditional shaded courtyards and alleyways.
The main projects are the Bahrain Surf Park, built with Wavegarden Cove technology, the four-star Avani and five-star Tivoli resorts by Minor Hotels with a shared beach club, and residences including Tivoli Residences. Smaller boutique hotels and homes are planned between them.
The area is a short drive from Bahrain International Circuit, Al Areen and the Jumeirah and Sofitel resorts at Zallaq. For residents it offers something rare on the island: homes beside a natural, unreclaimed beach. As the hotels and surf park open, the beach is expected to become one of the island's busiest leisure spots.
