About Sakhir Desert Camping Season 2026-27
Each winter the Southern Governorate runs an official camping season in the Sakhir desert, when families and groups set up tents for weekends and gatherings in the cooler months. As of October 2026, the dates for the 2026-27 season have not been announced, so the listing here is tentative until the governorate confirms the calendar.
The 2025-26 season was set to run from 5 December 2025 to 25 March 2026, with registration open from 20 to 30 November through the Khayyam initiative in the Southern Governorate's Aljunobya app. A refundable BD100 cleanliness deposit applied to non-commercial permits. On 2 March 2026 the governorate suspended the season until further notice for public safety, and tents in Sakhir were removed by 6 March.
If the usual pattern holds, registration would open in November via the app ahead of a December start, but this is not yet confirmed. Watch the Southern Governorate's official channels and the Aljunobya app for the announcement before planning a camp, and only set up tents once the season is officially open.
